Since 2016, the International Classification of Diseases 10th review, clinical modification for diagnostics (CIE10ES-diagnostics) has been used. Until 2015 the International Classification of Diseases 9th review, clinical modification (CIE9MC) was used, so comparability with other years is not always possible because there may not be a one-way relationship between the two classifications.
Methodological note (2020): WHO established an emergency code for the coding of COVID-19 infections in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). In Spain, this coding was implemented in July 2020, so to identify the income of the first half of 2020 due to COVID-19, an estimate of these cases has been made, taking into account the main diagnosis that motivated the admission (which mainly affected the respiratory system), along with other secondary diagnoses associated with the same hospital episode
